Biography
Vigdis Unsgård is a highly sought after Lyric soprano from Trondheim, Norway.
At the age of 10, she joined the Children’s Opera Choir at Opera Trøndelag, this is where she began her journey, to develop as an artist now described as having a warm and inviting timbre along with a powerful scenic stage presence.
Vigdis has completed an extensive education in classical singing and opera. In spring 2013 she finished her Bachelor degree in Opera at the Norwegian Music Academy and at the National Academy of the Arts. She then followed this up with her Masters degree in Opera from the Norwegian Opera Academy in 2015.
During these years, she had already begun performing and earned her first main role in 2012 as "Lucie" in Opera Trøndelags production of "Olav Engelbrektsson" by Sommerro.
Then, in October 2013 she made her debut at the Norwegian National Opera as ”Op. S” in the world premiere of " Ad Undas - Solaris Korrigert" by Øyvind Mæland.
At this stage, she was selected for one of the highly coveted soloist (praktikant) positions at the Norwegian National Opera in season 15/16 which was extended into a second year for the season 16/17. Here she performed in multiple main stage roles, such as: Euridice in Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck with Rinaldo Alessandrini, ”Barbarina” in Thaddeus Strassbergers production of Le nozze di Figaro and “Frasquita” in Calixto Bieitos production of Carmen with Eun Sun Kim.
Other credits include “Melanto” in Il ritorno di Ulisse in Patria with Allesandro De Marchi at Landestheater Innsbruck, Austria, "Susanna" in Le Nozze di Figaro Operaen i Kristiansund, "Adina” in L’elisir D’amore at Opera di Setra and "1. Lady" in Die Zauberflöte at Opera Trøndelag.
Vigdis has also sung in many concerts, most notably the prestigious Aftenposten New Year Concert with the Norwegian National Radio Orchestra, which was broadcast and repeated on national radio. Other concerts include Grieg/Sibelius Concert with the National Opera Orchestra and singing at the opening of the Innsbrucker Festwochen der alten musik, Austria in August 2017.
During her promising career thus far Vigdis has earned awards, most recently the Opera Friends Oslo Talent Award, which is only granted sporadically by the committee to a singer they deem as having highly promising talent.
